Sand Stone

Sand Stone

Sandstone is a natural stone composed mainly of quartz grains and other minerals of relatively uniform size, often smooth and rounded, bound together by siliceous or ferruginous cement. Rajasthan is India’s leading sandstone-producing state, making it an important source of this excellent building material. Sandstone can be chiseled and dressed into a smooth finish and shaped into a variety of attractive forms. It is widely used for roofing, flooring, paving, paneling, beams, pillars, arches, doors, window sills, wall facing, fence posts, milestone markers, and more. Due to its acid- and thermal-resistant properties, it is especially suitable for exterior cladding in seaside buildings, where saline winds have minimal effect. Its acid and alkali resistance also make it ideal for use in chemical industries for flooring, wall fixing, and lining. In addition, sandstone is well suited for carving and for making windows and jalis.
